What's New

:: Tommy Rees continues to be listed as the sole starter at quarterback, with Andrew Hendrix as back-up, but projected to play, with Dayne Crist heading to Kansas to take up graduate studies
:: Theo Riddick is listed as a back-up at running back, with Jonas Gray lost to injury, continuing a situation already seen in the Stanford game
:: with Theo Riddick at RB, WR's have been shuffled, with playmaker Robby Toma starting in one of the three WR positions, and T.J. Jones listed as his back-up, while also being listed as the starter at another WR spot; veteran John Goodman is listed in the two-deep behind Jones, and Daniel Smith in the two-deep behind NFL Draft-caliber senior Michael Floyd
:: DE Ethan Johnson is back and ready to play, and indeed is listed as a starter ahead of freshman Aaron Lynch (with Lynch nevertheless undoubtedly set for game action); with other injuries, the other DE spot has two freshmen in the two-deep, albeit good ones; the return of Johnson also beefs up an already big defensive line with 300-pound DE Johnson joining 325-pound NT Louis Nix, and 295-pound Stephon Tuitt at the other starting DE spot

:: Florida State has a base formation on defense with a four-man front, i.e., a 4-3 base defense; the starters at NT and other DT are big, around 300 pounds, while the DE's are lighter, around 265; it has two unusually tall defensive backs, around 6-2, and two shorter DB's, around 5-8
:: Florida State quarterback E.J. Daniel is big and mobile, a decent runner, but paradoxically has given up sacks
:: like Notre Dame, Florida State is retooling at running back, having made use of a tandem but losing a key second RB, like Notre Dame losing a veteran senior (in Notre Dame's case the loss was due to injury; for Florida State, it was failure to make grades)
