Frank Leahy Era: 1941-43, 1946-53, 87-11-9 (.855)
Frank Leahy, also a Notre Dame player at tackle under Knute Rockne from 1929-1931, was Fighting Irish Head Coach from 1941-43 and 1946-53, his coaching tenure interrupted by service in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Leahy, the second-winningest coach in college football history and third winningest at Notre Dame, compiled a 87-11-9 record at Notre Dame, including at least five national championships and four Heisman trophies.
